Creating a new customer record

A Customer record defines the applications, security level, storage information and usage for an organization or group that will be using a customer tenant.

Follow these steps to create a new Customer record.

  1. Log in to the Private Cloud master tenant as an administrator.

  2. From the application switcher, select System Console.

  3. Select the Customers tab.

  4. In the Customers List section, click New Customer.

  5. Enter the following information:

The fields displayed on the Customer form may vary depending on the workflow and system configuration. Some fields described below might not be available when creating or editing a Customer record.
    • Company Name: Enter the name of the company or organization for this Customer. This field is required.

    • Website: Enter the Customer’s website address.

    • Status: Select the Customer record’s status.

    • Company Size: Select the option that best represents the size of the Customer’s company.

    • ISV Partner: Select the ISV Partner associated with this Customer, if applicable.

    • ISV Support: Select the support contact or support record associated with this Customer, if applicable.

    • Max Backup File Storage (MB): Specify the maximum amount of storage, in megabytes, that can be used for the Customer’s backup data. This value can override the system-wide backup storage limit for this Customer. For more information, see Backup and Restore.

    • Trial Expiration Date: Enter the date on which the Customer’s trial expires, if applicable.

    • Renewal Date: Enter the Customer’s renewal date, if applicable.

    • Paying Customer: Select this option to identify the Customer as a paying customer.

    • Security Level: Select the security level for the Customer tenant. The Customer can later change this setting from its Account Settings page.

    • Customer Logo: Add an image to use as the Customer’s logo.

    • Show Application Tree: Select this option to display the application tree for the Customer.

    • Dedicated Server: Select the dedicated server assigned to the Customer, if applicable.

    • Database: select the database to hold this customer's data.

    • Plan: select a pricing plan to determine default limits on the number of records, fields and other resources allowed for this customer. See System Console > System > Control Panel > Configuration > Service Levels for information on how to customize these plans.

    • Security Level: select the security level for the customer tenant. The customer can later change this from their Account Settings page.

    • Applications: select the applications to be installed into the new customer tenant. If this field does not appear on the New Customer page, click Design This Page and drag Applications Lookup onto the page from the Available Components list. The Platform application will be included by default. It is required, do not remove it. For more information, see Installing applications in new tenants automatically.

    • Email: specify the email address for the first administrative user for this customer tenant. If you do not want the first user to have the Administrator role, you can change that user's role and create a customer tenant with no administrators. See Creating a tenant with no administrative users for details.

    • Storage Server: The default storage server is pre-defined, select a new storage server to the customer, if desired.

    • Storage Location: The default storage location is pre-defined, select a new storage location corresponding to selected Storage server or any of the Amazon S3, S3 Compatible Storage, or Microsoft Azure file storages for the customer, if desired.

Note: Post migration to Platform 5.4, check if the Customer is using the mentioned fields: S3 Bucket, S3 ID/Account Name, S3 Key/Account Key, S3 Compatible URL, and Cloud Storage. It is recommended to delete them from the customer objects under ISV Partner and System Console applications due to security reasons. The mentioned fields are no longer required by the system.

    • Search Server: if more than one search server is installed, select the search server assigned to this customer.

    • Assigned Monthly Plan Price: Enter the monthly plan price assigned to this Customer, if applicable.

    • Max Users: Specify the maximum number of users allowed for the Customer.

    • Max Records: Specify the maximum number of records allowed for the Customer.

    • Max Storage MB: Specify the maximum storage allowance, in megabytes, for the Customer.

    • Max API Hits per Hour: Specify the maximum number of API calls allowed per hour for the Customer.

    • Generic Rate Limit Profile: Select the Generic Rate Limit Profile to apply to regular API requests for this Customer. The profile applies to all tenants assigned to it.

    • Service Account Rate Limit Profiles: Select one or more Service Account Rate Limit Profiles available for assignment to the Customer’s Service Account roles. A profile’s rate limits apply to API requests made through the Service Account roles to which it is assigned.

    • Max Applications: Specify the maximum number of applications allowed for the Customer.

    • Max Object Definitions: Specify the maximum number of object definitions allowed for the Customer.

    • Max Field Definitions: Specify the maximum number of field definitions allowed for the Customer.

    • Overused Resources: Indicates whether the Customer has exceeded one or more of its configured resource limits.

    • Max Portals: Specify the maximum number of portals allowed for the Customer.

    • Max Service Account Users: Specify the maximum number of Service Account users allowed for the Customer. This limit controls how many Service Account users the Customer can have; the Service Account Rate Limit Profile controls the API request limits for a role assigned to that profile.

      • Default Value: 0

      • Maximum Value: 5 per license

Existing licenses now allow up to five Service Account users per license across the entire environment. The limit is shared across all tenants, rather than allowing five Service Account users per tenant.

For information about assigning Service Account Rate Limit Profiles and how they govern API requests, see Rate Limit.

  6. Click Save to create the record, or click Save and New to save the record and create another Customer record.

After several seconds or minutes (depending on the speed of your server) the system will finish the tenant creation process by installing all selected applications. Until tenant creation is completed, the Login button on the Customer view page is disabled. The page will be refreshed automatically when process is completed and the button will be enabled. After this is finished, Platform sends a welcome email to the first administrative user, who will then be able to log in to the new tenant. When an administrator of the master tenant logs in to a customer tenant, they have super-admin privileges.
