Setting permissions by role

The Permissions page for a role allows you to set the following permissions for that role:

  • Administrative permissions
  • Application permissions
  • Object permissions, including an object's related views, reports, charts, and workflow actions
  • Tab permissions, including a tab's menus

The ability to manage all permissions for a particular role makes it easier to manage that role's permissions. You can filter the view by application to see only the objects and tabs for a single application.

To set these permissions by role:

  1. Navigate to the Setup home page:

  2. Under Administrative Setup, click Roles.
  3. Click Permissions next to the role whose permissions you want to edit.
The Permissions page opens and displays all permissions for that role, including:

    Administrative permissions:

Object permissions and permissions for each object's views, reports, charts, and workflow actions:

  4. Optionally select an application from the Filter By Application drop-down field to filter the view by application. The page will now display only permissions for that application and its objects and tabs, as well as administrative permissions for the role.
  5. Set the permissions as desired.
    When setting permission for objects:
    • You can specify a combination of View, Create, Edit, and Delete permissions
    • You can click Select All to grant all permissions for the object and its views, reports, charts, and workflow actions.
    • You can click Select none to clear all permissions for the object and its views, reports, charts, and workflow actions.
    • You can also grant or clear permissions individually.
    When setting permissions for tabs:
    • You can click Select All to grant all permissions for the tab and its menus.
    • You can click Select none to clear all permissions for the tab and its menus.
    • You can also grant or clear permissions individually.
  6. Click Save.
Users with that role now have the selected permissions.
